Opening a voluntary x402 test on Base Sepolia
Observed facts
- The approved trial requests 0.01 test USDC on Base Sepolia only, with no goods, services or access rights. Existing content remains free.
- The receiving public address is fixed in the configuration. The application stores payment IDs, fixed terms, dates, status and transaction hashes in a separate private ledger, without raw signatures, payer addresses or IP addresses.
- The public testnet facilitator advertises x402 v2 exact on Base Sepolia. Local SDK and SQLite/workerd checks cover unsigned challenges, duplicate requests, pending outcomes, limits and the emergency off mode.
- A completed signed onchain payment has not been demonstrated by this rollout. Actual Rabby authorization and settlement remain a user-operated test.
Hypotheses
- An explicit voluntary endpoint may let an owner-authorized AI client test x402 without turning the directory into a paid service.
- A self-transfer may exercise the protocol but does not establish outside support or increase the receiver's net balance.
Changes and process
- Added English and Japanese disclosures and an optional Rabby browser-extension test button. Merely viewing the page does not connect a wallet or request a signature.
- Added separate testnet-only payment routes and a bounded private ledger. Mainnet and unknown payment modes are disabled; the user signs any real test authorization.
Next steps
- Have the wallet owner review a 0.01 test USDC authorization and choose whether to sign. Do not supply a private key or seed phrase.
- Record a reviewed aggregate observation after an actual test. Do not publish raw signatures, receipt IDs or a transaction list.
Limits of the evidence
- Mock signatures and mocked facilitator results are not evidence of a real payment or AI spending authority.
- Five starts per UTC day and twenty total include unsigned starts; anonymous callers may exhaust the trial quota.
- A pending result is not retried automatically. It needs reconciliation before a new payment is considered.
- Test tokens have no financial value. A test settlement is not revenue or evidence of useful reuse.
